No one lasts longer than 3 to 5 days without water. Chronic dehydration is the cause to many illness and diseases. There is about 80% of water in infants and babies since they rely on non-solid foods. The older we get, the less water we drink and that’s why water is about 70% in young adults and only about 55- 60% in the elders. We need to at least maintain this proportion in order to stay healthy.

Here are the reasons why what is important to humans:

Water makes up the majority of every cell in the body

It is the biggest part of the blood and lymph systems, carrying food and oxygen to the cells and carrying away waste out of the body

Helps control the blood pressure by balances the electrolytes

Water flushes the kidneys to get rid of toxic substances

Keeps the eyes, mouth, and nasal passages moist

Maintains the body temperature, keeps it cool when it is hot and insulates the body from cold

It is a shock absorber to cushion the body’s organs

It lubricates joints

It is the major part of your blood, sweat, tears, and saliva

Water can provide many of the trace minerals the body needs

When you body has less water than it needs, dehydration occurs. Chronic dehydration is most of the time, the root causes of many sickness and ailments.

When your body is lack of water:

By 1%, creates thirst. Your mouth feels dry. Your body has already started to malfunction. Never wait until you feel thirsty to drink water.

By 5% can cause a slight fever.

By 8% will cause glands to stop producing saliva, skin starts to turn blue.By 10%, your tongue will swells, your kidneys started to fail, muscles go into spasms and you will have trouble walking.

When you are 10% short of water, your skin will crack, organs will grind to a halt and you may die!

As humans, we need water not only for drinking, but everything else around us. Just try turning off your main valve for a couple of days and you soon realize how important is water to our lives. We need water to wash, to clean, to flush, to grow and endless other things. Clean and fresh water is needed for almost all function of the human body. Making sure the water you feed to the body is as close to nature and as clean and fresh as possible is too important to overlook.

How much should your daily water intake be? Is the 8 X 8 recommendation justified? According to the Guyton’s Textbook of Medical Physiology, this is how much water we lose every day under normal conditions:

Skin (not from sweat)–12 ounces

Lungs–12 ounces

Sweat–4 ounces (without exercise)

Feces–4 ounces

Urine–48 ounces

Total: 80 ounces per day. And remember, that’s without sweating due to exercise or high heat and humidity.

The recommended 8 x 8 would provide 64 ounces, and that means we would be 16 ounces short based on typical fluid loss, even before your daily exercise routine. That’s why eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid per day is still a good idea. Some would argue that tea, coffee, soft drinks, processed juice, and alcoholic beverages should count toward that total, I disagree since these beverages actually make you urinate more than usual and therefore, you need to drink even more water to replace fluid loss.

How much is your daily water intake also depends on your body weight, how much you exercise each day, the kind of work you do, your diet, your health condition and the climate you live in. For example, the heavier you are, obviously, you need to drink more water, and so on.

Keeping balance in the body is one of the major key factors for optimal health. Remember to replenish the amount of fluid loss due to your daily activities. If you sweat more during a work out or live in hot and humid climate, drink more water. If you urinate more often after drinking the caffeinated beverage, drink more water to replace it. Severe dehydration can affect the skin, drinking enough water will help. If you experience a headache or migraine, fatigue or muscle cramps, loss of appetite, it may be sign of dehydration. Try filling yourself up with a couple glass of clean fresh water

While drinking too much water (more than your bodies’ need) won’t help improving your health more, drinking too little definitely harms many of your body’s functions. Water is about 80% in infants’ weight, 70%-75% in adults and 60%-65% in the elders. Keep your body adequately hydrated may prevent you from many ailments and body malfunctions. Make sure to keeping tract of your daily water intake needs. There is a water intake calculator you can refer to here, just plug in your weight, how much you exercise each day and the amount of water you should drink each day will be calculated for you.

Now you know how much you should drink each day, but do you know what kind of water to drink? Bottled? Distilled? Boiled? Straight from the tap?

Is tap water safe?

Is bottled water any safer than tap water?

Distilled water is not for human. It doesn’t contain the micro mineral that the body needs. Boiling water may kill the bacteria, but won’t filter out the contaminants, heavy metal, and or chlorine/chloramine, all are bad for health. Knowing how much to drink is important. Knowing what you are drinking is also important if you want to maintain good health. Water is good for you only if it is good water!

We all know that water is essential. It does more than sustain life; it can actually improve our health, our fitness and our appearance. Human body contains about 75% water. What kind of water is good for the body? It has to be clean, clear, odor less, contaminants free, fresh and has trace of minerals. It has to be pure!

Water is good for you only if it’s good, pure water.

Potable water has become a major concern for many people today. The National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) maintains that the number of Americans exposed to water contaminant above EPA standard is growing.

Do you know what is in your tap water before it is in you?

We often take the purity of our tap water for granted – and we shouldn’t. There are endless reports of contaminants in our tap water. Aging pipes can break, leach contaminants into the water they carry and breed bacteria – all potential prescription for illness. Old-fashion water treatment -built to filter out particles in the water and kill some parasites and bacteria, generally fails to remove 21st century contaminants like pesticides, industrial chemicals and arsenic.

Chlorine is used to disinfect water. Chlorination process at the Municipal Water Supplies can form chemical compounds called trihalomethanes (THMs) which are carcinogens resulting from the combination of chlorine with organic compounds in water. These chemicals do not degrade very well and are generally stored in the fatty tissues of the body (breast, other fatty areas, mothers’ milk, blood and semen). It can cause mutations by altering DNA, suppress immune system function and interfere with the natural controls of cell growth. Chlorinated water can destroy polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E in the body while generating toxins capable of free radical damage (oxidation); Chlorinated water destroy much of the intestinal flora, the friendly bacteria that help in the digestion of food and protect the body from harmful pathogens.

Tap water may contain:

Lead from soldered pipes. Lead can result in anemia, low birth weight in children, increase blood pressure in adults

Microbiological growth inside pipeline or tank

Particulates from corrosion and rusting inside pipes or holding tanks

Pesticides from leeching industrial runoff

Mercury, which may cause kidney damage

Radon from land decade can increase the risk of stomach cancer

MTBE (Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether), a cancer-causing chemical

Bacteria and viruses

EPA estimates that 2-10% of bladder cancer may be from contaminated drinking water. The use of at source water purification devices is strongly recommended to protect you and your family’s health.

There are a wide range of water filter or purification systems on the market. Most pitcher filter or the faucet mounted filter will eliminate some of the chlorine in the water, thus improving the taste, but are not effective in removing contaminants and bacteria. Some like the reverse osmosis filtering or distillation systems are removing everything in the water, including the minerals, which are beneficial to our health. These systems need high water pressure and waste as much as 75% of it. The best in home filtration system to date is the combination of carbon block filtration and ultraviolet light. A multi-stage carbon block filter can trap particulates 300 times smaller than a human hair and reduce lead, mercury, organic and inorganic contaminants, but it will leave in all the beneficial minerals. Ultraviolet light can destroy 99% of waterborne disease causing bacteria and viruses.

To maintain good health, purify your water before drinking, when cooking and even when washing food, fruit and vegetables. (They soak up the chlorine in water and will end up in our body).

Fill 2 glasses with tap water, drop about 5 drops of the OTO chlorine tester into each glass, in a couple minutes, the water will turn yellow. This indicates that there is chlorine in the water. Now drop in some unwashed vegetable into one glass, some raw, unwashed meat in the other and you will see that the water clears up. Where did the chlorine go? Into to food that are going to be consumed by us, and in our body is where it is going to stay!

What is the real benefits of drinking water? And what kind of water is good for us?

Through out our lives, we heard the phrase: “to maintain your health, drink 6-8 cups of water”. “What? I’ll be visiting the restroom every 15 minutes!” You might be thinking to yourself. That was the very first thing that came to my mind when I heard that. And when I was growing up, I could go through a whole day without drinking water, didn’t feel too bad then, but later on in life, I developed a severe case of constipation as a result.

So, if I had known how important it is to drink enough of water every day to avoid many illnesses, I wouldn’t mind going to the restroom often to flush out whatever my body doesn’t need.

Did you know exactly what and how water can affect our well beings?

Water plays an important role in our body. There are 92% of water in the blood, 22% in the bones, 75% of the brain and the muscles are water. So there is an average of 65-75% of our body’s weight is water! Water makes up the majority of every cell in our bodies. It helps flush out the toxic substances in the kidneys. It helps control the blood pressure by balance the electrolytes. It helps moisten the eyes, mouth and nasal passages. It helps keep the body cool when it is hot and insulates the body when it is cold. It also acts as a shock absorber that cushion the body’s organs and it helps lubricate joints and is part of sweat, tears, and saliva.

Now can you see why drinking enough water has major benefits to maintain a healthy body?

Water helps maintain blood volume, which maintains your energy

Proper hydration improves your concentration and reaction time, especially during exercise

Water increases the number of calories you burn during regular daily activities, helps body reduce fat deposits

Water can help prevent the stomach distress concentrated medicines can cause

Water helps rid the body of excess sodium that can cause fluid retention

Water also helps protect against a variety of ailments. There may be links between high water consumption and a reduced risk of: cold, constipation, urinary track infections, kidney stones, and bladder cancer.

Did you know that drinking enough good quality water might improve your appearance? Because water reaches the skin last, if your body doesn’t get enough water, your skin will feel the effects more than any other organ. Water can help hydrate the skin, leaving it:

Smoother

Softer

More supple

Less wrinkles

It may even help you lose weight. People often mistake thirst for hunger pangs, so we tend to eat snacks, when in reality, our bodies just need some water to drink. Drinking water can also help you feeling full, thus lessening your desire to eat.

How much water do you drink a day? It really depends on several things: the size of your body, how physically active you are, under what condition do you work, and even the climate you are in because your body works hard to keep you warm or cool. As a general guideline, the average person should drink between 1.5 to 2.5 liter (about 1.5 – 2.5 quarts) or 6 to 10 8 oz. cups, or half the body’s weight in ounces. For example, if you weight 120 pounds, and exercise 20 minutes a day, then you need to drink at least 8 cups of clean water to replace the bodily fluids normally lost throughout the day. We loose body fluid every day through urinating, sweating and even breathing.

Do not get dehydrated. Dehydration occurs when your body has less water than it needs, and it is a very serious condition. When your body is just 1% below normal, you feel extremely thirsty, when you are 5% below, you will have a mild fever, and if you are 10% low on water, you will turn blue and not able to walk!

Fresh, clean purified water is the best way to keep hydrated. Caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, and colas actually dehydrate the body, using more water to process than they provide; alcoholic beverage do the same.

To maintain the optimum health from the inside of our bodies, drink plenty of freshly purified water is the best way to stay hydrated. A healthy body reflects in beautiful, supple skin.

There are many reasons why water is good for you. Water plays an important role in our lives, accounting for between 60-70% of our total body mass. Water is essential for maintaining many of the body’s functions and activities, including food assimilation and digestion, excretion, cellular reaction and body temperature regulation.

Water helps us to keep a clear mind. Our brain is one of the organs with the highest percentage of water in the body – almost 75% – and a lack of water intake will weaken the functioning of the brain and easily lead to tiredness, fatigue, slow reaction and some time, a headache or migraine.

Water carries nutrients around the body and enhances the body’s metabolism, helping us to stay healthy and enjoy side benefits such as smooth and softer skin. An adequate intake of water helps facilitate the digestion process, stimulating bowel movements and the discharge of body waste.

Another benefit of water is that it can help dilute the level of calcium in urinary functions and prevent the formation of calculus. Water also lubricates our body joints and helps us move around with greater ease.

A healthy adult on the average will lose more than 2.5 liters of water from the body each day, meaning we need to drink six to eight glasses of water per day to stay healthy. There are a number of things to consider in order to get the maximum benefit from this most basic of drinks.

Drink warm water. Cold water affects the functioning of our intestines and digestive system while the body can absorb warm water more easily and aid digestion.

Drink on an empty stomach. This is the best way to consume water as it can be absorbed directly.

Drink regularly. It does not help much if you just take a sip of water now and then when you feel thirsty.

If we need eight glasses of water every day, when is the best time to drink?

In the morning. Before doing anything else, drinking one to two glasses of water just after you wake up can help stimulate peristalsis, lower blood concentration and boost blood circulation.

Before a meal. Drink a glass of water 30 minutes before meal can help preparing the digestive system to better absorb nutrients.

After a meal. It is NOT advisable to drink lots of water during or within half an hour after a meal because it can affect digestion.

In the afternoon. About 2:00 -3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, drink 2 cups of water to refresh the body and the mind

One hour before sleep. The body consumes water while we are asleep, making us feel thirsty and dehydrated in the morning. Drink some water an hour before you sleep can help replenish any water loss during the night.

Water is so important to our bodies that we have to pay attention not just to the quantity of water we drink but also the quality. Using an effective water treatment system is the most economic way for you and your family to enjoy high quality water at all times.

Let’s review why is water good for you, some essential facts that most of us have over-looked.

Water is the key component of all living things, but you may not know exactly why water is good for you. Water is the most common substance on earth. It is the very thing our bodies need most. Drink lots of water is important to health and well-being.

Did you know that drinking enough clean water every day may help stave off many health concerns we are facing today? Here are just a few of the many, according to the Water Quality Association:

Decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%

Slashes the risk of breast cancer by 75%

Cuts up to 50% of bladder cancer

Reduces the chance of catching a cold or flu

Helps prevent constipation

Prevent the risk of kidney stone

Maintain blood volume, therefore reduces the risk of cardiovascular or heart diseases.

Prevent urinary tract infections

Water is account for about 70% of our bodies’ weight. Some parts contain more water than the others. There are about 92% of water in the blood; 75% in the brain; muscles contains 75% water, and even bones are 22% water!

Want to improve your overall health and well-being? Drink enough clean and fresh water will help reaching and keeping your goal. Water is so important for many body functions, such as:

Water helps maintain blood volume, which maintains your energy; prevents blood thickening that leads to high blood pressure and other heart diseases. Again, blood should consist of 92% water.

Water improves your concentration and reaction time, which is important for our daily activities. Remember, brain works best when there is enough clean water (75%)

Water helps burn more calories during regular daily activities and exercise

Water can ease or prevent the stomach distress when taking medication

Water flushes out the toxins in our bodies through urination and sweat

Water rids the body of excess sodium that cause fluid retention and therefore help you loose weight

Water reaches the skin last. Unless you drink enough water, your skin will feel the effects more than any other organs. Want beautiful skin that is supple, soft, smooth and wrinkle free? Be sure to drink plenty of clean, fresh water every day to help hydrate the skin and improve your appearance.

Some time people mistake they are hungry when they are actually thirsty. They reach for the snacks instead of a glass of water. Drinking water 30 minutes before each meal can help you feeling full, so you eat less and help better digest the food you eat. Studies show that drinking enough water may give you more energy and burn more calories during exercise and help your body reduce fat deposit. A good news for your weight loss or weight control program.

Why is water good for you? Without enough clean fresh water, your body will suffer the some or all the ailments list above. Why wait until you get sick to get treatment when all you need is to drink enough water that your body needs to function properly every day to maintain optimal health?

But wait, the quality of water you consume through drinking and cooking food has a lot to do with your health. The human body is designed to only work well with natural, clean & fresh water. Chemically treated, contaminated water will harm more then help. It can even destroy your health, slowly, over the long run.

“How much water should I drink each day?”

A question many people don’t have a clue to. You have probably heard the phrase “eight 8 ounces a day”, but your water need depends on many factors including your health, your weight, your lifestyle, how active you are and the climate where you live.

As a general rules, you should drink at least half your body weight in ounces under normal condition. For example, if you weight 150 pounds, then you should drink 75 ounces of clean, fresh water to replenish daily water loss through breathing, urinating, perspiration, and bowel movement.

Other factors that would require you to increase water intake:

Exercise or working under heat: you loose more water when you are sweating more. The more you sweat, the more water you have to replenish.

Environment: you tend to sweat more under hot or humid weather. Heated indoor air can cause the skin to loose moisture during wintertime. Higher altitude can cause you to urinate more than usual. Conditioned air can also be dry also. Drink more water to replace lost body fluid.

Caffeinated beverages: while some experts say that all fluid intake counts as water, but coffee, tea, soft drink or alcoholic beverages actually dehydrated the body, using more water to process than they provide. If you are thirstier after drinking that soda or coffee, drink more water!

Pregnant or breast-feeding: women who are expecting or nursing need more water to stay hydrated and to produce milk.

Illnesses: when you have health condition such as fever, cold, vomiting and diarrhea, bladder infection, urinary track infection, you need to drink more water.

If your diet including plenty of fruit and vegetable that contain a lot of juice, then you don’t need as much water since natural juice from fruits and vegetables count as water or fluid that the body needs. Milk, sweeten or processed juice should not count as water either for milk is considered food and sweeten fruit juice needs more water to process.

For proper body functions, drink the adequate amount of water to stay hydrated. Adjust the water intake according to your condition and environment. Make sure to drink fresh clean water through out the day before thirst sets in. Fresh and clean water is one of the most needed nutrients for the body, and it is relatively cheap too. Bottoms up!

“What kind of water should I drink?”

Clearly, the cleaner the better. Quantity and quality of the water you drink each day has a lot to do with maintaining your health. You probably have the choices of bottled water and tap water. Most people know or believe that tap water is unsafe for consumption, so almost every family is piling up cases and cases of bottled water. But did you know that bottled water may not be as safe as you think it is? The best alternative is to install an effective water filter at point-of-use, to filter out any impurities that could harm our body function. My family cannot live without this faithful servant that guards our drinking and cooking water supply.

Drinking water health benefits are too many to list. Second only to air, water is essential to all living things. ¾ of the human body is water, and dehydration is the cause of many illnesses. Most of us know that water is essential to our health, but many don’t know what happens to the body when it does not receive the water it needs daily to function normally. Every function in the body is regulated by and depends on water. Water is needed to carry vital nutrients, oxygen, hormones, chemical messages to all part of the body and help in eliminating wastes from the body.

When the body is not adequately hydrated with water, it causes pain. Ever have a headache gone in a few minutes after drinking a big glass of water? Dry mouth is not the only sign of thirst. Some unexplainable pain symptoms can be a simple cause of dehydration. Once we understand how the human body works, that water is largely responsible for our well-being, water becomes the most natural and economical form of treatment to many diseases.
